History

The Kaelin Story

Milestones of a dream take-off

Even as a young boy, Dominik Kälin was fascinated by airplanes. What began as a child's game developed into an impressive company history...

1998

Dominik Kälin's passion for flying has always been exceptionally strong. He started rebuilding airplanes at the age of 11. Even then, of course, with a built-in engine.

2003-2007

After leaving school, he began his training in aircraft construction at Pilatus.

2007-2009

After completing his training, Dominik Kälin gained extensive experience in the repair and construction of aircraft both at home and abroad.

2009

Founding of Kaelin Aircraftstructure GmbH (CH). The first order was a special order with extremely tight timing: a wings repair on the legendary Super Constellation. Dominik Kälin and his team successfully completed the task - in three days and nights.

2012

Founding of Kaelin Aero Technologies GmbH (DE). Construction of Hall 1 for the production of components for the Pilatus Porter PC-6.

2013

Start of the rebuilding of the Junkers F 13 with the serial number 01 (Anneliese 2).

Replacement of special segments (UCL - Upper Cockpit Longerons) for the entire Swiss Air Force fleet. RUAG AG in Emmen, Switzerland, was supported by four Kaelin specialists over a period of three years.

2016

Construction of Hall 2.

Production of components for the Pilatus PC-24 begins, and seven components are now manufactured here.

From 2017

Installation of MPVK kits (Maximum Pilot View Kit) from Swiss Rotor Services begins on helicopters from a wide range of operators. The MPVK offers unrestricted pilot visibility of the most important mission areas by enlarging the cabin floor window to 350%.

Start of construction of Hall 3.

Start of rebuilding the Junkers F 13 in a small series.

2019

Expansion of the Swiss Company with sites in Malters in the Swiss canton of Lucerne. Eight thoroughbred specialists work here primarily on difficult and demanding repairs and modifications.

End of 2019

Start of construction of Hall 4.

Development of the detail production department.

Expansion of the production depth to include Miling.

2020

Moving into Hall 4.

2021

Junkers A50 Junior Construction of the breakage cell and the prototype.

End of 2021

Successful maiden flight of the Junkers A50 Junior.

2022

Start of development and construction of the Junkers A60 airframe and prototypes.

2023

Start of structural assembly for the Pilatus PC-7 MKX.

Relocation of the Swiss sites to Sempach.

RUAG AG supports the US Navy's Artemis project: disassembly and structural work on the 22 F-5 Tigers.

2024

Development of "Eye In The Sky" modification for AS350 helicopters.

2025

Launch of the new sites at Lugano airport.
